How do I complete an application
- First complete online application
- Wait for notification email for next steps of mentor process
How often do I have to meet with my mentee?
- Mentors meet with mentees once a week for 1 hour
How long is the mentor/mentee commitment
- Program is asking for mentors to commit to being a mentor for 1 year at a minimum
Do I have to take my mentee on outings?
- The BRRB mentoring program is focused on developing reading, critical thinking and emotional self regulation among black boys.
- Outings with mentee is not required
Do I have to meet my mentees parents?
- Yes you do. All mentors must be introduced to mentees parents of legal guardians.
How often do I have to meet with parent?
- At least once and as often as required
How old are program mentees?
- Program mentees are ages 10-14
What will me and my mentee talk about for one hour?
- Mentor and mentee will spend 2 15minutes block of reading together.
- Mentee will read out loud to mentor for at least 1 15 min session
- Mentor will lead mentor / mentee conversation outside of the 15 minute reading block.
What oher program responsibilities are there for a mentor?
- Mentor must complete mentor on-boarding and program training
- Mentor must provide and update their weekly availability
- Mentor must complete “Mentor Report” once a month
How do I meet with my mentee?
- Mentors meet with their mentees once a week online via Zoom link.
Can I request a change of mentee?
- Yes? Both mentor or mentee can request a match change by contacting program coordinator
- Program coordinator must be notified of request via email. Programcoordinator@blackboysrbeautiful.com
Do I need to complete a background check before becoming a mentor?
- Mentors only need to complete asexual offenders check successfully before becoming a mentor.
